Speaking at the seminar, Mr. Le Hong Son, Standing Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee, asserted: “Urban transportation is an important lifeline of every city, especially in Vietnam with rapid urbanization and economic growth. Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City are facing major traffic challenges, posing many issues that need to be resolved, from planning and investment capital to improving the public transportation system and developing railways in urban areas. To achieve this goal, determination and close coordination between stakeholders are important to ensure the solution is effective and sustainable in the long term. This is the reason for Hanoi Capital and Ho Chi Minh City to co-chair the organization of a scientific conference on urban railway system development to exchange international experiences on urban railway system development.”

Overview of the seminar

During the seminar, the leaders of the Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh People’s Committees discussed the investment and construction of urban railway projects. Despite recent progress, the implementation of these projects still faces numerous challenges. Institutions and policies require improvement to expedite the completion of the urban railway network, and innovative “breakthrough” solutions must be explored.

The seminars will continue to take place from January 17 to 19, 2024, at Melia Hotel, Hanoi.
