Lawyer Phan Trong Dat is a Partner of EPLegal and currently heads the firm’s Hanoi Office. With nearly two decades of experience in dispute resolution, arbitration, and commercial mediation, he is widely recognized for his deep involvement in the development of Vietnam’s arbitration and ADR landscape. His extensive institutional background and practical experience have contributed significantly to strengthening EPLegal’s capabilities in complex commercial disputes and alternative dispute resolution matters.

Prior to joining EPLegal, Mr. Dat spent many years at the Vietnam International Arbitration Centre (VIAC), where he held several senior positions, including Deputy Secretary-General and Secretary of the Legal Science Council. Throughout his tenure, he played an active role in the institution’s management, coordination, and strategic development, while also contributing to the academic and legal foundations of arbitration practice in Vietnam. In parallel, from 2018 to 2021, he served as Standing Deputy Director of the Vietnam Mediation Centre (VMC) before being appointed Acting Director in 2021, further strengthening his expertise in mediation and consensual dispute resolution mechanisms.

Mr. Dat has regularly participated in domestic and international arbitration conferences, forums, and professional exchanges, enabling him to develop a comprehensive and commercially oriented perspective on dispute resolution strategies. He has also been a Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (MCIArb) since 2017 and an accredited mediator of the Centre for Effective Dispute Resolution (CEDR) since 2019. In addition to his professional practice, he has served for more than ten years as a visiting lecturer at the Judicial Academy, teaching courses on negotiation, mediation, and commercial arbitration.
