NEARLY TWO DECADES AT THE HEART OF VIETNAMESE ARBITRATION
In Vietnam’s dispute resolution community, few have built as deep a connection with VIAC – the Vietnam International Arbitration Centre – as Mr. Phan Trọng Đạt. Over nearly two decades, he was not merely a witness to the institution’s growth but an active participant in shaping it.
As Deputy Secretary-General, he was directly engaged in the organisation’s management, coordination, and strategic development. As Secretary of the Legal Science Council, he contributed to building VIAC’s academic and legal foundations – where questions of arbitration law, procedural standards, and policy were deliberated at the highest level. Throughout, he regularly represented VIAC at major events domestically and internationally, from Southeast Asian conferences to global forums.
A MARK LEFT AT THE VIETNAM MEDIATION CENTRE
Concurrently with his roles at VIAC, from 2018 to 2021, Mr. Đạt served as Standing Deputy Director of the Vietnam Mediation Centre (VMC), before being entrusted as Acting Director in 2021. Contributing simultaneously to both of Vietnam’s leading dispute resolution institutions speaks to the breadth of his influence and the trust the community placed in him.
INTERNATIONALLY RECOGNISED CREDENTIALS
· MCIArb – Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (since 2017): Expertise in arbitral procedure validated against the highest international standards.
· CEDR Accredited Mediator (since 2019): Reflecting capability in both arbitration and mediation – an increasingly preferred method of dispute resolution in today’s international business environment.
ACADEMIC FOUNDATION & TEACHING
Mr. Đạt holds a Bachelor’s in International Economics from the Foreign Trade University (FTU, K35) and a Master’s in Creative Project Management – an uncommon combination of legal thinking, governance, and innovation.
For over a decade, he has also served as a visiting lecturer at the Vietnam Judicial Academy, teaching Negotiation, Mediation, and Arbitration to future lawyers – the work of someone who not only practises the craft but invests in passing it on.
